Deb Almond, the artist behind Candid Almond, was born and raised in London in 1987. Her mum was an art teacher and to become an artist was Deb's dream too, but she put her paints and pencils down in her early 20's to pursue a career in public health. For a decade her work in sexual and reproductive health led her all over the world, but as the years wore on she was forced to confront why her way of life had left her feeling more and more depleted. In January 2020, Deb made the decision to quit her day job and commit to her artistic business full time.

Deb is inspired by Reproductive Justice, protest art from around the world, strong women who demand to be heard, visual messages of unity and hope, and her own mental health. She has lived in Washington, DC with her Michigander husband since 2014 and has two children.

10% of all proceeds of Candid Almond go to HIPS, which advances the health, rights and dignity, of people and communities in Washington, DC impacted by sex work and drug use. HIPS provides non-judgmental harm reduction services, advocacy, and community engagement led by those with lived experience.
